An interview with DI's Rep Director and COO Takayuki Miyake on Business Insider

An interview with Representative Director & COO Takayuki Miyake is published on Business Insider Japan. In the interview he spoke about his views on Social Impact Bond (SIB), which is a powerful tool for DI to produce business that solves social issues. SIB is a public-private partnership (PPP) system in which a private business operator provides public services entrusted by the government based on funds procured from a private fund. The private fund then receives a performance fee from the government when the results are achieved. Merits of SIB include:

o   For private business operators: Receive financial support

o   For the government: Minimize public expenses

o   For the private fund: Receive returns from the government and contribute to society

DI started working with Toyota city (Feb ’20) and Maebashi city (May ’20) to introduce SIBs to the regions. A comprehensive partnership agreement was signed with Development Bank of Japan Inc. (Jun ’20) to explore the utilization possibilities of SIBs in solving social issues.
