DI seeks to strengthen capability of digital media intellectual property

Dream Incubator (“DI”) seeks to expand its media-related IP capability with the acquisition of PEACS and a portion of publishing business of Ei Publishing Co., Ltd in November 2020.

In a recent column article of Dai Nippon Printing, DI Executive Officer Mr. Katsuhiko Handa has shared that as the publishing industry evolves, printed content ceases to be the primary source of revenues as publishers are now actively pursuing online media. Like DI’s investee Boardwalk, its business model is engineered to monetize data of fan clubs, e-tickets through e-commerce and fan marketing. This mechanism does not only apply in the realm of music, but also to various genres of special interest magazines such as surfing and other outdoor activities. When it comes to hooks and cash generators of PEACS, he believes it’s important to diversify cash generators and monetize IP in B2C/B2B sector. The key is to leverage fan data for profits. DI is considering to pursue roll-up strategies with strategic acquisitions of more IP to expand into other genres.
